Old Whetstone school - part of Colonel Crawford School. Torn down around 2012
I went to this school until completing the third grade in 1956. I remember two names after all these years. Carolyn Keenly and Bobby Guinther. I remember getting spanked when another kid threw an apple onto a wood project one of the older kids was working on in the basement. No, it did not affect my life negatively.
Joel, I think you meant Carolyn Knisely. She was a teacher then later Principal. She later was my Algebra teacher in Junior High. She is still alive and active on Facebook. I went here roughly 1974-1979. On the left of this picture was where older kids played and had baseball field, swings, and a Mulberry swing of some sort. Younger kids played on the right where there was swings and a 4-square.
Teachers from here: Ms. Phillips 1st grade, Ms. Diebler 2nd Grade, Mrs. Korner 3rd grade, Mrs. Holtshouse 4th and 6th grade, Mr. Kevin Ruth was also 6th grade. Can't remember the 5th grade. I want to say we said pledge of allegiance through 1st and 2nd grade. There was also lots of annual Spaghetti Dinners held there along with kid's Thanksgiving and Christmas shows. The building in the rear stored mowing equipment and whatnot, and later torn down. That's the Olentangy river in the back, where you could get lots of snapping turtles out of.
My grandmother when you high school here. 1956-1959. Her name was Priscilla J. Rostash. Anyone remember her?
