Photo 81-TCR-35

This is more how it looked when I grew up here from 1983-1997 than the other pic from 1966. After my dad died of cancer here, the owner jacked up the rent so my mother had to move out. He then donated the house to be fire fighting practice and sold the land for a substantial profit to Walmart. I literally have pictures of my childhood home in flames while firefighters are smiling and giving a thumbs up because it was in the local newspaper. It was very surreal.
The driveway for this Walmart is pretty much in the same footprint as our driveway was. There is also now a crappy strip mall where the two smaller barns and the cornfield were. They didn’t even attempt to preserve any of the gorgeous old oak or pine trees surrounding the house. Not a one.
Yay for progress.
