Winko Bowling Lanes and Nationwise Auto Parts, building demolished.. Northwest corner of West Broad & Wilson Road. Now Consumer Square

McDonalds and Arthur Treachers at the bottom!

A lot has changed since that photo was taken. Caruso's Pizza used to be just west of the Auto Parts store and Bowling Alley. We used to get parts at Nationwise Auto Parts in the lanes 60's. We lived in an apartment off Grace Street, just west of Wilson Road. That apartment is now gone and so is the street we lived on, replaced by Consumer Square and a gas station. Caruso's was the best pizza ever!

Hi Anna! Thank you for sharing your memories of the area. It's fascinating to hear about the changes that have taken place since the photo was taken. Could you share any other memories you have of growing up in rural areas during that time period? It's always interesting to learn about different experiences. Thank you! -Alexis

Hi Alexis,
I have many memories of growing up in the area. I lived on North Grener Road and graduated from Pleasant View High School (Grove City) in 1965. I remember before Westland mall was built. We swam in LIVCO pool in Lincoln Village and rode our bicycles everywhere. We rode to the Pharmacy in Lincoln Village every day in the Summer for creamsicles and chocolate or cherry cokes. We went to Moore's Dairy for ice cream, Tony's Coney's in New Rome, walked to the BBF on Broad Street and Try My Pizza on Garden Heights. My favorite pizza was Caruso's Pizza on West Broad Street, just east of Wilson Road. We went often to the Walk 0 Wonders at Great Western Shopping Center. I attended Prairie Norton Elementary. The main event of the Summer was the Fireman's Fish Fry in New Rome. I still attend the fish fry every year. There is a wonderful website with all the information about growing up on the west side of Columbus. Please check out West Side Columbus Memories or westsider.webs.com. I recently made some posts on this website. I was searching for pictures of WINKO Lanes when I came across this website.
Thank you,
Anna
