Whitehouse Restaurant
SR 51
near Genoa

I remember stopping here with my Mom.

My mom Esteline Pat Doyle Hurst and my Grandma Maggie Doyle worked here when I was young I used go to work and wash dishes for them..

My grandma worked here. I believe it was managed by the Harpels who I met after they moved to Florida...Howard and Dee. I live just a half mile from here in what was once Forest Park, the old amusement park and skating rink.

The truck and car service says, "Here is where the ZZOOOMMM is"!

I MOVED TO THE GENOA AREA IN 1963.I HAD BREAKFAST HERE BEFORE IT WAS CLOSED.I REMEMBER THE ROLLER RINK JUST WEST OF WHITE HOUSE BURNING DOWN IN 1963 OR 1964.THE WHITE HOUSE IS LOCATED ABOUT ONE HALF MILE EAST OF THE OLD FOREST,BUT DEFUNCT AMUSEMENT PARK.ALONG WITH THE ROLLER RINK THEY HAD A BOWLING ALLEY,ROLLER COASTER,ETC.PEOPLE FROM TOLEDO AND AREA FILLED IT. I'M SURE MANY IN THOSE DAYS ATE AT THE WHITEHOUSE TRUCK STOP.

Location pinned Gordon Lumber is here today.

My dad used to own it in the 70's and 80's. He had a construction company and several steel hauling semis. He used his backhoe to demolish it in the 80&s after the roof caved in. I used to play my organ in the restaurant. Donald Bigelow. During the blizzard I pumped gas for the emergency vehicles. Dad used the backhoe to clear SR 51 east down to the light and 2 miles toward Toledo.

After he closed the restaurant, the gas station was still open. We had a man stop by looking for the clock which was where Genoa bank is now. I had to convince him he was in the wrong place. He walked around the building a couple of times before I told him that he was in the wrong place.

Gordon lumber is right next door
