Swanders Farmers Elevator, 13801 Fort Loramie-Swanders Road, Sidney

Old Swanders PO at the intersection of the CH and D Railroad and the Ft. Loramie Pike.

A different view of it is here: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/ohio...

Business closed and sold in 2017. Only the eight silos remain. Farms for miles around had to find other terminals to sell grain, and feed mills and stores to purchase feed. It was my elevator from 1950's until it closed; my grandfather was one of the farmers who formed the cooperative about 1920.

The Post Office was in the little dark building at the left edge of the photo, across the road from the elevator. It closed in the 1930's or 1940's. It had been a grocery too since the Swanders Crossing rail stop was created about 1856-1860 at James Swander's request. The elevator and train stop were on his farm land, north side of the road.
