Pitt Gas School. I attended kindergarten and 1st grade there before the new consolidated elementary was built and opened in 1980, closing all of the smaller community elementary schools such as Pitt Gas, Dry Tavern, Lippincott, Mather, Central and others.

I completed all 8 grades here, graduating in May, 1951. No Jr. High or Middle School back then. Had to pass a test to graduate to High School.

Do you remember what the train car behind the building was for? What was your favorite class in school?

Hello Alexis. I have no recollection of a train car. When was the picture taken? I would have started 1st grade in 1943. My favorite subject back then was geography.

The photo was taken in 1983.

Alexis: That explains it somewhat. The car must have been placed there some time after 1956, the year I left Pitt Gas for a job in Ohio. The car might have been a supplemental classroom ; or possibly an office/equipment bldg. for one of the strip mining outfits that were active in the area.
