There was a deadly explosion very close to here when a dynamite truck exploded in June 1964. At least five people died. The truck had a flat tire, the driver left the trailer and drove back to Stroudsburg to get help and while he was gone the tire began smoldering leading to a fire which caused the explosion. The truck was headed northbound from the area of Pottsville, PA to New York State. The driver had taken the placards off of the truck and placed them in the cab so when the volunteer firemen came from Marshalls Creek they were unaware that the cargo was dynamite. As a result a federal requirement was put in place requiring placards on dangerous cargo
