Little Daniels Run Road. Again the coal company purchased this farm from the Mowl family and rented it out for years. This was a very grand home. Built by either Abraham Mowl(1791-1861) or his son Solomon. Solomon(1824-1889) and his brother Abel Mowl(1818-1852) went over the hill to marry two Ross sisters. Solomon married Permelia Ross(1830-1909) and Abel married Elizabeth Ross(1821-1852). Abel and Elizabeth were my gg grandparents. When my grandmother(1885-1983) was a young girl her mother would take her in the buggy to visit Aunt Permelia at this home. Solomon's son Ross Mowl(1856-1916) then inherited the farm. A large gas well was drilled on the farm about the turn of the century. The well caught fire during a ferocious thunderstorm. The story of how they put the well fire out made the newspapers all over the country. An article about the fire was even published in Popular Mechanics back in the day. All buildings were demolished when turned over to the Game Commission. Such a shame to lose such a beautiful historic farm.
