Mathews Flour & Feed. This was along Route 31 in Jones Mills at what is now Grist Mill Lane. The mill and the two houses at bottom center are no longer there. According to a published inventory of historic buildings, the mill was built around 1850. It had a water wheel in the basement. The milling machinery was on the first floor. In later years the mill was powered by a gasoline engine. The mill mainly produced buckwheat flour, with the last batch being milled around 1980. At the time the inventory was published, this mill was "one of the best-preserved 19th-century flour mills in the region." The inventory was published in 1994 by the Historic American Buildings Survey and is titled "Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania: An Inventory of Historic Engineering and Industrial Sites."
