This house is currently owned by Richard Hefner. This is where he grew up and so did I. My dad, Winters Hefner bought the house from the Auldridge family. His mom, Ota Hefner rented this house at one time. The house was used as a field hospital during the civil war. It was owned by the McNeels, the Pennell's and there was also a boarding house there at one time. This house is unusual as the main house and the back portion was at one time separated by a breeze way. This is not a common architectural way here but found frequently in the South. The concrete block garage housed the Mill Point Post Office and a store for several years that was run by Elsie L. Irvine Hefner Long. She retired and the post office was closed down in the spring of 1988.
