Licking Presbyterian Church and cemetery, Curllsville, PA. The congregation was formed in 1803/1804 with the Rev. Mr. McGarrah serving as the first pastor. A meeting house made of 25' logs and clapboard roof was erected in 1808. The building was also used for a school and eventually after a larger meeting house was built, it was then used for a parsonage for the pastor and his family. Stump Creek had been the previous and original name. By 1808, the total number of the congregation was 33, and a church building was erected, which was also used for a school, and finally, became a parsonage. A second log structure with doubled dimensions was built in 1822. These two log meetinghouses were located a few feet southwest of the location of the present church building. During the ministry of the REV. JOHN CORE, in 1848, the first frame worship center was built. The third pastor to the congregation was REV. JOSEPH MATEER, who began his Curllsville ministry in 1854. During his tenure at the local church, he also served as an Army chaplain in the Civil War. In 1875, the Rev. DR. JAMES McCURDY became the pastor. For 30 years, he ministered to the Licking congregation. He compiled the first documents of the church in 1895. Two of his daughters, MARTHA (McCURDY) MORGAN and MAUDE (McCURDY) CURLL, helped compile the first published history of the church in honor of the congregation's 125th anniversary celebration in 1928. HARRY C. CRAIG, chorister and organist, also led the event. Declining membership caused the congregation to dissolve in the late 1990s.

Union C.O.G. Pool, Sligo. In 1976, the Clarion County boroughs of Sligo, Rimersburg and East Brady, along with the townships of Madison, Toby & Piney, joined together to form the Union Council of Governments. The group's goal was to "retain and strengthen our local governments while combining our local resources for regional challenges." The founders were Carl Buterbaugh (Sligo), Arthur James (Rimersburg), Harold Butler (Madison), William Charney (Toby), and Clyde Myers (Piney). The greatest effort of the COG began in 1977, when it acquired nearly seven acres of land in Sligo for the construction of a 4,625-square-foot swimming pool and large recreational park. The Union Pool Park opened in the summer of 1979 and has been an important asset to Southern Clarion County for more than a quarter century. Prior to this period, the nearest swimming facility was the Alcola Pool opened for the Redbank Valley residents in 1959, when Richard Vidunas & Donald Stemmerich, Rimersburg & Sligo playground directors, organized weekly trips for the half-hour bus ride for swimming recreation.

The McCall Farms, Inc. was formed April 8, 1963 with William âRossâ McCall (president), Minnie âMaeâ (Craig) McCall (vice-president), Ella Henry, Carl McCall, Esther Myers, Donald McCall. Initial farming was of a meat packing facility, that engaged in the production of butchering, hides, fats, bones and meat scraps shipped in interstate commerce, but in 1963 branched into chicken/egg farming with Mae's desired to run the egg-farm. McCall's Farms was widely known for the production, processing and marketing of eggs. The operation involved 48,000 laying hens housed in four laying houses with 12,000 hens/each, 13,000 baby chicks and produced approximately 7,300 eggs an hour (1970) 35,000 eggs a day (1966). The business, in 1968, employed 11 people involved in operating the plant. Eggs were gathered three times a day. Five girls were employed to do all phases of the washing, candling, grading and packing of eggs all completed in one process. And in 1970, had nine employees doing the job. The laying houses were of the latest design, 23 feet wide by 180 feet long, equipped with running water and motor-driven feed cars, the temperature maintained by automatic fans. In 1970, it was using 95 electric motors to run the equipment, 12,000 pounds of feed per day for the chickens, and 3,000 gallons of water per day. Store deliveries were made within a 50-mile radius and wholesale within a 250-mile radius. In March 1955, a severe windstorm hit Clarion County. In Curllsville, roofs and windows were blown out and farm buildings in the area suffered considerable damage. Heaviest loss was to the farm buildings and slaughter house belonging to Ross McCall of Rimersburg RD 1. A number of buildings were wrecked in the Sligo area and nearby barns were damaged and de-roofed. The upstairs of Ross's home was destroyed. This same wind storm resulted in Clarion County farmer, Lee Beatty of Strattanville, having his frame barn blown down, killing 10 milk cows, a team of draft horses, a large hog, 200 of a flock of 300 chickens - some found completely featherless about a mile away. Destruction of a wealth of farming equipment. Four heifers were saved. In July, 1966, the McCall farm was again struck with disaster of losing 22,859 chickens due to electrical failure from faulty wiring inspection. In June, 1972, McCall Farms, Inc., Rimersburg RD, was awarded a large settlement in Clarion County Civil Court against Keystone Electrical Inspection Service, Inc., of New Cumberland, allowing for a three percent interest charge from July 30, 1966 to June 20, 1972 (the date of the verdict) at 6% interest. In 1974, Egg processors at the 58th Farm Show in Harrisburg included in the list for producer-quality award for one dozen eggs, the McCall Farms, Rimersburg. -PJG

Located on the old State Route 854 (now Huckleberry Ridge) in Piney Twp. Neuland Myers owned it in the 1940's, when school children would walk from the one-room Mast schoolhouse to the store during lunch break. Later owned by Alfred & Jane Bartley, Clyde & Esther Myers, Clair & Greta Kitchen. It housed a small Clover Farm grocery store, service garage, fuel, and served as a local bus stop for neighborhood children.
