This is where I grew up. The 2 big trees by the road are gone now (2021) (blocking view of most of the house). The big catalpa tree that blocks the view of the barn is gone now as well. Sadly, the barn was torn down in the late 1970s. One of the barn beams that had giant pegs is serving as a mantle or something decorative in the colonial style neighbor’s home facing the lake (same neighbor’s new barn is being built in the photo). The fenced area in the backyard was pasture for our cows and a section was later sold. A house was built facing the lake on that section. Wonderful memories come to mind when looking at this photo. Wishing I could see the house and barn better. Maybe I’ll find a different year photo where it can be seen.

The barn I made reference to was torn down in the late 1970s. One of the barn’s beams is a fireplace mantle in the picture 85-JGI-32.

The farm was also where Henry Ford offered Clifford Brakmeier a job when he was approximately 16 years old because he figured out why the Fordson tractors were overheating. He declined the offer.
