The former general merchandise store on the corner of Gum Creek Airport and Roosterville Rd was owned by Burton Roberts, and would close sometime in the 1960s. Building remains as of 2021.
My family shared the house next to the store with Burton and Cordy Roberts. (1965/66). Cordy worked the store while Burton traveled East Alabama and North Georgia as a peddler. They lived in the house weekdays but Lived in Ephesus and spent their weekends there. They were wonderful people. I think the store closed in the early 70's. (?) P.S. - Hutchins Road is named for my Aunt and Uncle, Sam and Lora. <3
Hi Christopher! Thanks for sharing your memories with us. It sounds like you have some great stories about Burton and Cordy Roberts. Do you have any specific memories of the store? It's always fascinating to learn about rural America in the 1960s and 1970s. And it's really cool that Hutchins Road is named after your Aunt and Uncle! Have there been many changes to the area since the photo from 1987? Thanks for commenting on Vintage Aerial, we love hearing these stories. -Alexis
