In 1970 this 45 acres was an abandoned property with only a foundation of the old house left, work sheds and a barn and weeds up to your neck. The old house had been located inside the clump of trees in the photo. I came there as a part of an investment group that wanted to make it a campground. I cut the weeds down, laid out the roads and graded them, I designed the building and with the local lumber yard built it, installed the pool, designed the miniature golf course and built it, graded the campsites and had the water lines and electric installed. All the trees that are now growing on the property today ( 2016 ) were either purchased and planted by me and my employees and / or moved the larger ones to other places for shade. We built a sewer line from the lift station in the corner of the property to the area of the dam to connect to the city sewer system. My mother came up with the name "Carlyle Village Campground" and in an attempt to franchise and expand the campground added the "Home of the Pampered Camper" to the name. All the evergreens along the county road and the entrance were purchased by us from a landscaper in the area. I managed the campground operation until 1976.
What happened to the Camp Ground and where was it located?
