Big Hollow School

Located at the southeast corner of Rte. 12 and Rte. 134 (Big Hollow Rd.) was the Big Hollow School. The school originally organized in 1835 and about 1850 a quarter acre of land located in a geographical hollow was donated by William B. Daziel and a log school building was erected at the above location. The school district consisted of Ingleside, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Volo and Lakemoor areas. In 1873, a frame building replaced the log structure and additional land was purchased. In 1917, the school building was remodeled and in the 1940s a new school was built with additions made in the 50s and 60s. In 1972, the Edmond H. Taveirne Middle School (not pictured) was built south of the Big Hollow School. Taveirne was the former principal and superintendent of the Big Hollow School. A new campus of the Big Hollow School was built on Nippersink Rd. The Taveirne school was closed in December 2006 and both school building were torn down in January 2011. The property was sold in May 2012 to Interstate Partners.
