SE corner of Peterson Rd. and Rt. 83, looking SW. Peterson Rd. runs along the bottom and Rt. 83 is visible on the upper right corner. This place is long gone.

This is the former Swan School located on the southeast corner of Rte. 83 and Peterson Rd. in Fremont Township. Hurlbut "Deacon" Swan (1797-1878) donated the land for the school and the original wood building was built in 1856. The brick school building was demolished in 1995. He was born in Connecticut and purchased his farm land in Fremont Township in 1845 eventually elected to the Illinois State Legislature several times.
