The farm used to be located on the south side of the Rt. 120 and Wilson Rd. intersection; view is looking SE. Wilson Rd. streaks across photo and Rt. 120 is visible on lower left. The billboard painted on the side of the barn reads, and I'll spare you the all caps: "4 1/4% paid on all accounts / Lake County Savings and Loan Association / Grayslake".
Albert "Bert" Paddock (1865-1946) and Josephine (Mutaw) Paddock (1872-1940) purchased the Clover Dale Farm in 1895 from Elijah Stanford, located in Grant Township consisting of 137 acres. In 1920, the farm was then run by his son, Earl Paddock (1891-1963) and Kathryn (Wagner) Paddock (1896-1983) until 1940. Across Rt. 120, Albert built a Sears home (partially visible in lower left corner). At that time the highway was known as Rt. 20. The original name of the road was the Lake McHenry Plank Rd. In the late 1920's and 30's there was a road stand with a gas pump and ice cream was sold for travelers.
