Photo 45-BLA-14

Well this photo unlocked some more secrets. I am 99.9% positive that this is 25689 N. Old McHenry Rd., looking north in the photo. The hedges on the property today match the outline of the farmhouse shown on the upper left perfectly, which was razed. That being said, there just so happens to be a historic schoolhouse sitting there in my way, not matching up with this photo. A little digging reveals that the schoolhouse is actually the original Hubbard Schoolhouse (according to old Redfin listing online), built in 1904 (says Zillow) or 1905 (says Redfin), with a major remodel year listed as 1964 (a year off??). So I'm making a logical leap here, or just plain ol' jumping to conclusions, but I believe that the farm was demolished shortly after this photo was taken and the schoolhouse was moved to where the small shed sits on the lower left. And just who is this Hubbard Schoolhouse anyhow? My Googlefu is weak and turns up nil, so hopefully somebody will chime in with more info. My only guess is Hubbard Woods area...

Ah ha! I found a map from 1874 that shows the original location of the school was located on the NW side of the Echo Lake and Old McHenry Rd. T-intersection (which is just SE down the road a bit), so it was moved. This could be because it was changed to a private residence at some point.

At any rate, the school was named after Elihu Hubbard, who was one of the early settlers of Lake County, namely Ela Township.
