The garage was Eggert School. The school was in use through the 1956-57 school year. This had been a grade 1-8 school until 1955, when the Illinois department of education required that grades be split for rural schools like this one. No longer could one person teach all eight grades. The 1955-56 school year had 5th through 8th grades at Eggert School and 1st through 4th grades at Felts School, about 2.5 miles northeast (section 35 of Rock Grove Township). In April 1957, Dakota voters were asked to approve the sale of Eggert School, along with 10 other country schools that had been consolidated into the Dakota 201 school district. In its final year of operation, the Freeport Journal-Standard reported an enrollment of 19.
