This was formerly the Ridott Center school. Towards the end of its use as a school, it was part of Freeport District 145. In July 1956 the school board voted to close Ridott Center, one of 6 rural schools the board elected to shut down after the next school year. The Freeport Journal-Standard (7/14/1956) reported that the school lacked running water and was anticipated to have a small enrollment in the fall.
In April 1957 voters approved the sale of Ridott Center. The school was sold at auction on June 7, 1957 to Charles Oppold for $1,700. As with many former country schools, Ridott Center was converted into a home. In 1960 the Journal-Standard advertised another auction of the property, this one on behalf of Mr. Oppold who had made the school into a 6-room home with 3 bedrooms.
Ridott Center Cemetery is visible in the background.
