Doesn't look like it in this photo, but this was the New Dublin school...well disguised as a residence. The last year of operation was the 1949-50 school year. According to the Freeport Journal-Standard (8/22/1949), the State of Illinois announced that schools without at least a 10-student average attendance would be ineligible for state aid. This would have resulted in the loss of $5,000 in funding for New Dublin, so the school board decided to close the school. Students were transported to Pearl City schools the following school year.
At some point in the early-2000s the original school portion (right side) was removed, leaving only the garage on the left. Sometime between 2012 and 2014, the garage was replaced with the shed which exists today.
