Dick and Novella Alka someplace. I was 6 years old when this photo was taken. The porch on the house was so great. There was a tree beside it and there was a limb that grew horizontal to the porch just outside the railing. You could hop on the railing and throw your leg over the branch. Lots of photos were taken there.
The building beside the house is the garage. One side was always caked with dried dirt from dad's truck. I would put cardboard boxes in the corners for the cats to have kitten in and to stay warm. Mom and dad wouldn't let us have pets inside until later when my brother brought me a little black kitten from the farm.
There was a cottonwood tree behind the garage. My childhood friend and I would throw balls over the garage to each other. She broke the back window on accident. I remember thinking that maybe I could fly if I tried hard enough. I would climb up on the left corner of the garage and use a rope and try to "jump" off.
The barn in front is now gone but there use to be a hayloft there and I remember being so scared to climb the ladder to get to it. Cats had their kittens up there and one time we found a snake. It was a good place to hide.
The building next to the garage, we called it the chicken house, although I don't remember ever having chickens in there. It was always filled with junk, old stuff, rusty things.
When I was learning how to drive the lawnmower I accidentally ran straight into the big cedar tree shown on the lawn in the front of the photo.
