This land (Southwest quarter of Section 17, 17N-1E) was first settled by William Watson (1798-1866) in 1838. The house seen in this photo was likely built by his son, Francis Marion Watson (1845-1922) around 1900. The old Watson log cabin stood on this land into the 20th century.
