This place was originally Shady Grove Motel. Was built when Hwy 60 was built. Many of the workers stayed there. My parents, Cecil and Kathryn Swayze bought it in 1962. It was 10 cabins on a circle drive back through a beautiful wooded area. We operated the motel til they sold it in 1968, but kept 3 acres of it and built a home. As a child growing up here, we worked hard but we also played hard too. Have lots of stories about the people we met!

It was also Maxwells Army/Navy Surplus Store at the time of this photo. Note the wing tank mounted in front of store.

This also was turned into a resturant that served meals to people everyday, Breakfast , & lunch. Also the people who ran it, Bruce and Mary Carroll, made sandwiches there ,then took them to Carpenter Body Works to sell to workers at noon. Also sold icecream. I worked here for one summer when I was 16 years old, and now have lived near it of 35 years.
