I remember when I was a kid being scared of this place because of stories people told about "Atheists". I had the impression that it was nothing short of devil worship. Ah, the joys of growing up in small town in the 70's and 80's. It was opened by Lloyd Thoren, and was the only museum of it's kind, in the US, at the time. From what I understand, the owner and his wife were very nice people, but were constantly harassed and threatened due to their beliefs. I'm glad I started to smarten up and get more of a world view as I grew older. On behalf of one ex Piker, I apologize for the way he and his family were treated.
