This land once belonged to Leonard & Caroline Powel, the couple that adopted my great great grandmother, Laura Doolittle and her sister, Cora. He purchased the land in 1934; 80 acres from his father for $100, and 80 acres from his neighbor for $300 ($400 equivalent to 2022 purchasing power approx. $13,595). My great grandmother, Daisy Meltzer, was also adopted by the same couple and inherited the land around 1900. She sold the land in three pieces from 1912-1917 for a total of $12,500 (approx. $285,445 today).
