I grew up in this house. The Tanguay family built this large house. Originally it was a two family home. The building in the back left was a saw mill along a brook. It is gone now. The trees that our dad, Terrence Coffin Sr planted are so large now. We had a large garden in the back. I remember Herbie Garrity would plow it in the spring with his tractor. As kids, the snow would be very deep and we would jump off the terrace on the second floor (left side of house) into the deep snow. Spent many hours outside playing in this yard.

I am now the owner of this home. I believe, I am its 4th owner. The house was built in 1938 by Leo Tanquay. At that time Leo Tanguay owned the original hotel in Portage Lake. A grand building which sat in front of where the present Dean's Hotel is situate. This house was built with 3 fireplaces, one on each floor and in the basement. Since I purchased the home back in 2002, I am slowly restoring it - opening up door ways and uncovering fireplaces. Revealing old hardwood floors. Sorry Cynthia - I had to cut most of the trees down that your Father planted 45 years ago. It is a quality built home with rough sawn 2x8 and 2x10's from my grandfather's mill. Leo Tanguay and John Cormier were good friends.

I went to Catachism in this house, weekly, for a couple of years, around 1950-52. Mrs. Leo Tanguay was our Teacher. She was a very tiny fragile Lady, who served us her favorate snacks. White Saltine crackers and Cottege Cheese.

Jim. Is that where classmates Leo and Lavola lived? Nice history on this site.

My name is Robert Cummins and I need someone to help me. I was married December 1959 at the chapel on Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. An airman from Maine was in my wedding party. His name was Leo Tanguay and when I left the Air Force seven months later I lost all contact with him. I searched every Leo Tanguay that I could find on Facebook. As I remember his dad built a beautiful house, where in Maine I have no idea. If any friend or relative can shed some light on where he may be I would appreciate it. My email is B5250cal@hotmail.com and cell phone is 478-960-1109. Since an email will put the words main search would show up in my ijunk mail where I might overlook it, will you please enter β€œsearching”i in the title of any email so I will not miss it?
Waiting for good news,
Bob Cummins
