Ashland, ME

Ashland, ME Art's Appliance.

Far left was Brooks store, next was the Ashland movie theater, next was Boob Snowman's garage and the end was Ashland hardware owned by Ray Perry

The flat roof at the bottom is Chasse's store and Grays Pharmacy, next to that was I believe a restaurant and next was Lawrence Gagnon little market.

The building on the right was my grandparents (Raymond and Cecile (Toots) Perry). They ran the Ashland True Value and I spent just about my entire childhood living with them in their apartment upstairs.

Building to the left of Snowmans was the IOOF hall upstairs and the theater downstairs

I remember going to movies there before it burned down; love this picture

I remember on the bottom Left a ways down the street was a watch, clock, repair and jewelry store. Also (I'm sure I'll spell this wrong...) Diprey's barber shop. I used to get my hair cut there. I believe there was 2 brothers that owned the barber shop.

Good job folks. However, what has changed? The Brook's Bros. Nation Wide store is gone, the IOOF/movie theater building burned down in 1969 I believe. The lodge building was later built again as a single story on the same foundation. Merle S. Snowman's garage had more than one fire, but has been replaced by an auto parts store. The gas pumps are no longer present. The auto parts store has now annexed the newer IOOF building. The hardware store and (I believe rented) former Charles F. Coffin's Insurance Agency at the left are still in existence. My cousin Owen Weaver was a projectionist at the theater, and when I was 11 years old or so, I used to help him sweep the movie hall and the balconies. Remember the two balconies? Young children were not allowed to view the movies from the balconies, but I don't recall the age where it was allowed.

I also remember going to movies there as a young child until it burned down.

I was born on the top floor of the Brooks Bros. store. They were my great-uncles. My great-uncle Charles Brooks owned the movie theater. CF Coffin was also my great uncle.
