I think this is NC 801 heading northward in the lower left of picture. I think the big roads at the top are I-40. I-40 did not cross Davie county in 1965. It ended at Hillsdale. Note the barricades. You were forced to get off interstate here heading westward. Traffic would go a brief distance south on NC 801, then turn right (west) onto US 158. Then traffic would go through Mocksville past Methodist Church and turn right (on Gaither st. ??). Then go a block to Shorty York's Station and turn right onto Wilkesboro Street. Then head out Wilkesboro street to Mumford Drive/Tutterow's Shell/Millers diner and bare onto left onto US 64 west. From there travelers would take US 64 through Davie County to the Iredell county line. At that point I-40 resumed again all the way to California. Traffic was horrible thru Mocksville during the week due to no I-40 in Davie.
There is now a Taco Bell at the location of the house in this photo, located on N HWY 801 just before you get to the I-40 entrance ramp heading east.
