2110 White Rd

I've lived in suburban Grove City for a little over 20 years, and down the street from this farm for most of that. When the owner still had a couple of chickens, he let me and my daughter collect some eggs just for fun. He had a little vegetable garden (and a riot of zinnias) and he put in a gate to access his property from the back for a young widow to pick vegetables whenever she wanted. I know so many people in the neighborhood connect to this place and the man who lived there, like spokes to a hub. Apple trees and grapevines! Walking my dog along side his property on a post-storm evening was a treat for the eyes and soul. This winter I’ve been working on capturing a perfect image of the giant sycamore tree that grows over the old house, before this peaceful corner of Grove City is erased to accommodate more housing development.

This was my father-in-law's farm. Leroy Geyer. Was his father's before. It was the gathering place for a lot of family parties and holidays. Sold it this year and moved in with my wife and me in pickerington.

Hi Thomas, thank you for sharing the special memories of your father-in-law's farm! It sounds like it was a cherished gathering place for your family. Since the photo was taken in 1963, we'd love to hear more about what Franklin County, OH was like during that time. Also, can you tell us a bit about the type of farming that was done on the property?
