The Walko farm on the east side of Rt 301 just north of Peck Wadsworth Rd, Penfield. John and Eva Walko bought what they called a "ramshackled and rundown" farm in 1941 and re-did everything to their satisfaction. All of the smaller buildings were built by the Walkos. They moved there with little more then 2 cows and 3 heifers to their name. The next spring lightning struck and killed the heifers. Despite the setback, the Walkos began digging a basement under the old house on their hands and knees and soon the farm was thriving. Mr Walko died in 1943 and his two sons, John and Peter took over the operation of the farm.

The previous owners of the 149 acre farm was Frank Gott Glenn. In 1957 the Walkos had 62 Guernsey and Holstein cattle, 36 being milked. They grew experimental varieties of soy beans and had a superb alfalfa harvest year after year.

Everything is nice and neat today, the barns have been re-sided and re-roofed. The "1904" is gone, though.
