Gore cemetery on the northeast corner of Rt 113 and Gore Orphanage Rd. The Henrietta church is off the photo to the right.

The John Baumann Farm. The large hay barn burned down in 1964, shortly after this photo was taken. John was in the hospital when the fire occurred, he never returned home and died not knowing about the loss. His son Harold Baumann continued to farm for many years. Harold's daughter Ruth lives there currently.

This is my family homestead. It was built around 1823 by our ancestors, 3 brothers from Switzerland -John, Christian and Niklaus Baumann. My father Robert is Harold’s son, John’s grandson (who was the grandson of Niklaus), and grew up working the farm and orchards, which can be seen stretching to the east of the barns. Bob inherited Great Grandpa John’s original 1936 John Deere AR farm tractor which worked this farm and was purchased from Kipton Elevator as a new model. It has been restored and is still in working order, and can be seen at LaGrange Engine Club shows and at the Lorain Co Fair. It also returns to the farm from time to time. Bob and his older brother Jack worked the farm with Grandpa Harold through their college years when Jack became a teacher and moved to Oberlin. Bob was married in 1964 and shipped out to Japan to join the Navy during Vietnam just after the barn burned. He had planned to return to farm the land but it never recovered as a working dairy farm after the loss. He returned to college and became a veterinarian. His sister, my Aunt Ruth, lived here with her family, the Watsons, and still lives there today. There is now a horse stable on the northern edge of the of the hay barn foundation and John’s great great grandsons have resumed making maple syrup in the sugar barn on the northwest corner next to Gore Orphanage Rd. There have been horses and cattle among other livestock on this site continuously since our ancestors settled here in 1823. Our great grandpa John donated the land for the Henrietta United Methodist Church just east of this picture. The equipment barn to the east is still standing, as is the apple storage barn next to the cemetery to the north. We have a family reunion on this site every 8 years.
