I grew up on this farm. We raised Leghorn chickens and my father had egg routes in Oakmont and Verona, Pa., selling eggs door to door to regular customers, a few restaurants and a corner grocery store. I went to a one room school in Claytonia for 4 years, then the school district consolidated into modern buildings. We ran the typical family farm of the era. We gathered, washed, candled, and graded and boxed the eggs produced by thousands of chickens daily. Learned a lot about self-reliance and hard work. Also have fond memories of life on a family farm.
