Rivertowne Brewing Company in Export.

CORRECTION: At the time this photograph was taken in 1970, this building was home to the 'Universal Welding Company', NOT Rivertown Brewing. This photograph was taken in 1970, the year my family moved to this same neighborhood. This shows the intersection of Old William Penn Highway stretching left and right with Hills Church Road (beside the building), and Van Buren Street intersecting. Van Buren Street runs over the railroad tracks you'll notice at the bottom of the picture. The tracks have been since removed. On the corner of Old William Penn and Van Buren (the two white buildings), is the original Geiger gas station and market store. The owner and his son lived in the big house across the street on Hills Church Road. The elderly father had, and still drove, a 1930s era Model T Car. What a sight that was to see him driving around in that! This same car is now currently displayed in the yard of this house where the son still lives. Sometime in the earl-mid 70s, the son, Lou Geiger, built a new gas station/car wash on the empty corner lot. That gas station/car wash are still there today and Lou still works there. My family and I lived just up the road from this intersection (about 200 yards). I knew this place well as a child and would go to the stores often with my younger siblings to buy candy and pop and talk to Lou and his father. Thanks for the memories. :o)

Not Lou’s father , his uncle Clair Geiger lived in second house and had nothing to do with gas station. Mr Benninger owned gas station lived on up road from Lou’s home. Lou Remaley had it also for awhile, then Lou got gas station. Then finally built new one where he is now. His father was Russell Geiger. I am Lou’s cousin and grew up on Hills Church Road

Thank you for filling in the history. We live in Murrysville and learning this makes our experiences richer!
