Elder & Carolina Balo farm, South East of White, SD. They raised 8 Children, had dairy (holstein and Registered brown swiss), beef, hogs, chickens, and a few sheep over the years. Elder also purchased two other farms to house his beef herd. This farm was called Contour Lines Farm since he farmed on the contour. Wlder passed away in 1993 and Carolina in 2001, the farm was sold everything was bulldozed and a new dairy was built. I am their youngest daughter, lotza memories on that farm!

My Uncle's place. 1 mile east of where I grew up.

YES I grew up on that farm as the oldest daughter of Elder and Carolina Balo, born July 2, 1946.
I graduated high school in May of 1964. Beginning in about 1960 I milked cows in the new milking parlor Dad had built north of the old barn. This milking parlor is not shown in the photo. That tells me this aerial photo was taken prior to 1960.
My older brother Raymond left home to join the U.S. Navy in 1960. Ray tells me he recalls milking cows in the new parlor. The new milking parlor cut the milking time for milking 100 cows in half.
It was quite an addition to the farm. My Dad was quite a progressive farmer. In the 50s Dad received a conservation award for putting in many field terraces. Subsequently he named our farm Contour Lines Farm. This farm was a great place to grow up.
