This was my grandfather's home. After he passed away my husband and I bought it. We lived there for five years. When we got ready to remodel we found out what bad shape it was in and it was going to cost $10,000 to redo the roof, $10,000 for termite treatment, 10,000 to redo plumbing. By time it was totaled up we could build a new house. If we had put all that money into that old house, all we would have had was still an old house. We donated old house and surrounding buildings to fire dept and they did practice burns. In about a week everything was gone. Thank you for these pictures, we are enjoying showing you our children and my grandchildren
Hi Marlene! Thank you for sharing your memories of your grandfather's home in Amherst County. It sounds like you made a tough decision. We're glad our photos could help you reminisce. We would love to hear some stories or memories from the house. What kind of farming did your family do on the property?
