This house was built in 1840 and witnessed--in its front yard--the Battle of Brandy Station, June 9, 1863. The farm was the "overseer's house," John Wiltshire. It is now owned by the organization, the American Battlefield Trust who has "stabilized" it. The tree to the right front of the house is a Canadian Hemlock and is well over 200 years old. It witnessed the battle. A "witness tree," as it were. The spring-fed "ice pond" is still there and they fish in it!
