Birders and Helen Knight's farm on Knight Hollow Road Arena WI

Uncle Burdette (Knight) and Aunt Helen (Swenson) farm. All of the buildings except the house and the garage are gone. The house is no longer habitable. Lovely to see it here in its "heyday" when we were having Thanksgiving and summer sleepovers. Wonderful.

My fondest memory is Aunt Honeys warm hugs. The flowers out front in the summer that made such a cheerful entrance. Of course pancakes. Loved playing on the ridge facing the side porch. And eating pears off the three trees that grew at the edge of the embankment. Playing in the barn with the cousins. Watching the two of them milk the cows. And squeeze a stream of warm milk from a teat to see the cats catch it in their mouths. Always seemed a shame they didn't have children of their own. But Uncle Burdet sure ate up Aunt Honey's attention. Right down to having his hair washed by her every time in the kitchen sink. So I was told. He loved to tease and say embarrassing things. Good people. Wonderful days. So glad to have had a part in.

Whenever I smell fresh hay, I remember lying in the upstairs front bedroom in the middle of the afternoon with Marguerite. ..taking the required nap ... I have been in the house lately, and it so sad ... but the kitchen counter where Aunt Helen had us lie down so she coukd wash our hair ...it's still there !
