Buildings on top of Morse Mountain in Phippsburg, Maine. Long building on the right was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday, December 1, 1999. The building was previously an army barracks at one point in time. (Information provided by John Morse and Portland Press Herald and Sun Journal articles December 2, 1999 available from Google News archives).
The building on the right, since re-built in a different style, was called “Eyrie”. The one on the left is called “Easterly”. They were indeed barracks during WWII. There are the remains of gun emplacements with old sandbags still visible at a few points around the top of the mountain. Magnificent views.
