this is the hawley farm. Vining and mildred hawley owned this farm, they were close friends of my parents, we lived across the section to the west of this farm. vining worked in a car shop lansing and also farmed, a common practice in the 50's, 60's and 70's in this area as we were only 20 miles east of lansing. vining was killed a hit and run accident around 1977, the person who hit him was never found. i hunted pheasants a lot on this farm. there was [still is] a drainage creek behind house, you can see the bridge in this picture, it was the kalamink creek. this big barn eventually collasped in the 80's, the house still stands today but i don't know who owns it. lots of memories here for me.

This is where my husband and I live now. We bought the farm in 2010. It had been sitting empty for quite a few years and needed a lot of work. We have brought it back to it's former glory (we hope)But it is still a work in progress. We have met 2 of the Hawley boys that grew up here and our neighbors to the north are Hawley descendants. The big dairy barn is no longer there and we have tried to bring back the beautiful "sunken garden" in its place that Mildred Hawley had started before she died. We have a small pole barn that was on the property as Vining's workshop. We have transformed it into a livestock barn and have 30 sheep at this time. We hope to build a bigger barn in the future. We love this house dearly and love hearing stories about the Hawley's that lived here before us. If you knew the family and have stories to share stop by anytime and visit! we would love to show you around.
