This is a GREAT picture of the CTH C and STH 83 intersection. South 83 is on top and west C is on the right. Blackies Deep Rock Service Station is on the northwesterly corner at the bottom right. This is a Rare image! The building at the top is Ralphs Ace of Hearts and is still there but looks different. This was built by Haselman. Today there are no trees as shown in this image.
THE BUILDING AT THE TOP USE TO BE HASELMANS RESTRUANT. IN ITS DAY- IT WAS A CLASSY PLACE WHERE ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY THEY WOULD SERVE A CHICKEN DINNER WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS TO CHICAGO CLIENTAL AND MY PARENTS- BILL AND MARCELLA EBERLE AND MY GRANPARENTS- WILLLIAM AND MAME EBERLE WOULD RAISE AND PROCESS THE CHICKENS TO BE EATEN- 100-150CHICKENS EVERY WEEK.
NICE! I just looked it up.. HAZELMAN is how they spelled the business name on their matchbooks....but I believe their real name was Haselman. They had been at the corner of 110 and 264th during Prohibition (Green Parrot) and built here after that exercise. I think they opened 03 1935 and at that time was called LIBERTY INN.
I would honk and wave to Blackie driving to high school in my Corvair.
