At the very top edge and right of center in this picture, there appears to be some remnant buildings of Lincoln's first commercially viable airport. These are on the south side of Illinois State Route 10. The mowed area just to the south (left) of the buildings may be the east end of the east-west grass landing strip. This airport operated from about 1945 to 1963, and was first established on land farmed by Henry F.A. Bock. His farmstead is just out of the picture to the right, but appears in other film strips on Vintage Aerial.

From 1940 until 1977, this was the home of Henry F.A. Bock and his wife, Elda Meinershagen Bock(she passed away in 1971). They had two children, Elsie and John, who grew up here. The home was located on the north side of Illinois State Route 10, west of Lincoln, Illinois, and one mile east of Interstate 55. At some point prior to this writing (2021), all the structures and trees were removed. With the exception of about 160 feet of driveway, all the land has been returned to tillable farmland. One of the distinctions of Henry Bock was his being a prime mover in establishing the first commercially viable airport in Logan County. Officially listed by the state as "Lincoln Airport", it operated from about 1945 until 1963. The airfield was located on the Bock property, immediately across Route 10 on the south side. It had two grass runways, a shop hangar, office, fueling facilities, and T-hangars. This picture appears to have been taken in the afternoon of a late-summer day, with the camera pointed northwest.

This was a custom home built in 1956 by Ken & Marge Fuller at 1351 Home Avenue in Lincoln, Illinois. I grew up here. The car in the driveway is my 1964 turbo-charged Corvair Monza "Spyder". Despite what Ralph Nader says, it handled great, and never rolled over and killed me! After falling into disrepair, the home has been beautifully restored in the last few years by the Ryan Williams family, who reside there now.

This was a custom home built in the mid-1950s for John & Ann Charter, at 1301 Home Avenue in Lincoln, Illinois. A special feature was the oversize garage designed to store the Charter's airplane, a Cessna 180. The garage is at the right side in this picture, opening to the north and the large driveway/apron. The home sat at the crest of a hill, at the east end of a 2300' grass landing strip. The strip headed west, and ended near Lincoln Lakes. The home where I grew up was next door, off the left edge of the picture.
