20840 House & Hahl Rd, Cypress. This land was once owned by Harold and Alta Longenbaugh, who moved to the area during the Great Depression to try their hand at rice farming. Their rice farming operation was successful and eventually they were one of the largest land holders in Houston at the time. The photo above is located on House Hahl road (an unfinished section of the road) immediately east of Grand Parkway. Topographical maps from the '50's show that the land was leased to oil and gas ventures and you can see some of the equipment in this photo and photo 16. Harold died in 1959 and Alta continued to lease this particular tract of land until her death in 1994. The land was sold to a few different development companies and is currently owned by Bridgeland Development, LP. Harold and Alta didn't have any children and after her death, the Gillson Longenbaugh Foundation continued their philanthropy, donating millions to medical research over the years.
