This is Rockwall County's local UFO, in reality it is what's called a Futuro House.
The Futuro House is a futuristic UFO-shaped prefabricated home designed in 1968 by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen, intended as a lightweight portable and easy to transport home. Produced mainly in the late 1960s to early 1970s amid Space Age/Googie architectural boom.
Roughly 96-100 units were built, mostly in Finland/Europe, with a small number manufactured or assembled in the US. Production ended in the mid-1970s due to costs, the 1973 oil crisis making plastic expensive, regulatory issues, and limited demand.
Today, only 60 are known to survive worldwide. Rockwall's UFO is one of them.
For this particular Futuro House, it originally was located in nearby Garland Texas, (approx. 32°54'32.49"N 96°37'27.25"W). It was moved to it's current location following it's purchase by car salesman Jerry Moore and brother Terry for around $10,000, used initially as an office for their used-car business on it's Highway 276 lot, then used as a bachelor pad following Jerry's divorce.
The Futuro House was later sold along with the land to investor Mario Santa Cruz, who planned to open a restaurant or similar business around 2001. The plans did not materialize and the structure was largely abandoned and left to the elements afterwards, becoming a local landmark known for graffiti.
In mid-July 2019, Gunderson Elkins and Chris Shelton, two locals from Lone Oak, Texas, carried out work on the house, clearing out trash, removing graffiti from the interior and exterior, and repainted the house in a vibrant orange to match the structure's original or long-standing color. Adding the "Area 276" marking near the door as a nod to Area 51 and Highway 276, which it sits on. (https://www.facebook.com/PlanetRockwa...)
It has changed hands a few times, and as of 2026 seems to be associated with Sapo Real Estate.
