Building was originally built as a Bank. Later it became a Post Office for the Axton Community. The Post Office moved to a new building, and this is now a small Meat Market / produce store. As seen in the photo, the former Danville & Western Railway Line passed through the area, with a good station out of picture to the right. The Line had already been closed and track pulled up at the time this photo was taken, but the crossing gate and warning lights were still in place. They have since been removed and there is no trace of the rail line anymore.

UPDATE: Talked to neighbors tonight. We were told that the house had been rented out several times over the years, each time requiring the Trust Holder to evict tenants due to failure to pay rent. Each time, the house had been left in disrepair and damaged. The uncovered concrete area on the front left of the yard was originally a Koi fishpond, that had been filled in when the original owner of the house could no longer maintain the pond. we plan to expand it and restore it back to a koi pond in 2023. The house has now been upgraded with a new heat pump system replacing the non-functional and inefficient electric baseboard heaters. Parts of the house's original oil heating vent system have been put back into service for the new system, re-using the original floor vent boots which had been sealed up with wood, cold air return that had been left in place and never sealed, and upstairs vents capped off with new venting installed in each room.

Can confirm from next-door neighbor that this house did indeed burn down, not actually abandoned as thought. The garage was torn down after the fire. All that currently remains are the two stone-built chimneys, brick front porch, and property telegraph pole in front of the former garage.
