South Colon Cemetary. Many generations of my Mom's family are buried here. I don't remember anything about the church but across the road from the church was a one room school house that my Mom, Aunt and Uncle attended in the 1940's. It was torn down around the time this photo was taken.

This was a farm one mile from my dad's farm. The family's name was Custer. They had dairy cows and my Mom bought eggs from Mrs Custer. (Florence, I think). The original house was lost to fire caused by a lightning strike around 1974. Replaced by the ranch style one in the same spot.

This was my maternal grandparents farm. Was in the family for well over a hundred years. I spent about of time playing in that big barn. That is where the hay and straw were stored for my dad's farm that was just up the road. There was a pear tree in the side yard that had the best pears. Never had a better pear than those. Helped/watched Mom and Grandma can many quarts every year.

Edit: That would be a hired man not a bird man.

See previous picture for more explanation on this farm. The pond in the back was a manure lagoon. The waste from the slat floor pig barns flowed out to this pond. Dad would really anger the neighbors, some several miles away, when this was pumped through the irrigation system onto the fields. Mom and I would often leave for the day to get a break from the smell.

My dad's farm until just a few tears ago. Spent my childhood here. Raised pigs. The triangle lots in the back were outside finishing. Summer only. They had drip water system to keep cool and create mud pits. The two long barns in front were finishing barns. You can also see rows of coops behind and at the far end of the big old red barn where many sows gave birth and raised their piglets.
