Circle K was founded in 1951 in El Paso, Texas. Most of their stores spread throughout the Coastal Bend into cities like Kingsville, Corpus Christi and Brownsville around the 60s and 70s. Many of them were also operated and franchised by different companies like the Susser Corporation and the Charter Marketing company. In these instances, most of these stores were operated by the Susser corporation and no longer exist.

Nu-Way was the name of an oil company that operated stores under the same name. The first record of one of the stores dates back to 1963 when they operated from Fort Worth. The stores switched hands a few times until 1980 when FFP Operating Partners took over the stores. Some operated under FFP, others by Nu-Way Beverage Company. In 2005, FFP went under liquidation, auctioning off 114 of their 170 current stores, most of which were located near southern Texas and Louisiana. Today, many stores still operate locally under the Nu-Way, Kwik Pantry and Economy names since it's not trademarked or licensed.

Maverick Market was the name of a chain of convenience stores and food marts founded by businessman Erich Wendl in 1961. These stores spanned throughout South Texas from cities like Victoria and San Antonio to Brownsville and Laredo down in the Rio Grande Valley. 102 stores were acquired by the Coastal Mart Company in 1995, many of which ran under the name until the early 2000's side by side with Coastal Mart. The Susser corporation acquired them by 2002 and they were rebranded into Circle K stores.
