Cherry Grove Baptist Church. This structure burned some years ago and has since been rebuilt as a modern brick facility.
I have lived in this neighborhood all of my life except about 3 to 4 years,I am now 68 years old.I now live next door to the church,my parents built their house in 1971'72.All of the original older folks have long past, that helped start the church. The Bates,Moore,Evans,Ridgeway,Rose,Kirby,George,Lamars,Bullington,Siniard,Pattersons,Cox and Stanford were some of the families from the area.At one time there was a School in the area behind where the gas tank is sitting in this photo.Alot of my family went to school there,Mrs Opal Patterson was one of the teachers there. The children would carry water from the Spring at the Bates someplace up the hill for the teachers and children to drink. In the winter months the older boys would go into school a little earlier than the rest and build a fire in the heaters to warm up the class rooms. They carried their lunches in lard buckets and brown paper bags since they had no lunch room at that time.Have alot of stories from the children that went to school there.
MY GREAT GREAT GRANDDAD GAVE THE LAND FOR THIS CHURCH HIS NAME WH BORAGARD STANFORD ( DOC)
A WONDERFUL PLACE I MISS SO MANY OF THE OLDER PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THAT CHURCH THAT HAVE GONE ON NOW
