On the left is the former IXL School on the Madison/Bond County line. The school was on the Madison County side in Leef Township. In the early 1900s, the Landolt family owned the entire Section 24 (640 acres) where the school was located. One of its family members, Arlo U. Landolt, attended IXL School, became an astronomer, and now has his own Wikipedia page. The school was sold at auction on June 5, 1951 for only $100, proving once again that real estate values are all about location, location, location.
Today, the schoolhouse is gone and a newer house has been constructed on the property. Only the two small white buildings in the middle remain. Google street view from 2024 shows what appears to be remnants of the school's well, but nothing else is left. Current address is 18407 Baumann Rd, Pocahontas, IL 62275.
