This is William Speck’s house. His Father, Charles Speck purchased the land in the late 1920’s. Charles gave William the land when he moved downstate. William built the house himself with a mail order house kit sold by Harris Homes, it was shipped via a rail car. Shortly afterwards, towards the South, a subdivision was established called “Highlake” The subdivision was actually developed by the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad basically a venture to ensure increased ridership and use of their Prince Crossing Depot
